Hello Shockwaves!

This will be our first official competition event of the 2020 Outdoor Track season…get ready race!

As debuted during the indoor track season, we will compete this as a team event splitting our Shockwaves into 2 teams.

This will be a spikes on, grudge match, tenacious tug-o-war tussle between TEAM MYSTERY MACHINE GREEN and TEAM FIRST TO THE FINISH LIME

The Details:

This event is open to all Shockwaves runners from the current or past seasons and open to siblings of Shockwaves runners as well.

This is a competition event so all
Shockwaves must wear their uniform (if you don’t have one, you can borrow from our coaches emergency uniform inventory)

Coaches will create the teams on meet day based on the number of Shockwaves that show up Saturday morning. We will attempt to make the teams as evenly matched as possible.

Each Shockwaves runner will be allowed to compete in up to 3 event distances.

Distances to be competed are as follows:

100m
200m
400m
800m
1500m

Each race will be competed in the following age categories:
8 and under
9-11
12 and up
(Age is based on the age you will be on 12/31/2020)

Team Scoring:

1st place = 10 pts
2nd place = 8 pts
3rd place = 6 pts
4th place = 4 pts
5th place = 3 pts
6th place = 2 pts
7th place = 1 Pt

The team with the highest score at the end of the event is the winner!

Shockwaves on Saturday morning when you are placed on your respective teams, be sure to stare at your Shockwaves frienemies with merciless menacement. Prepare to channel your inner Jessie Owens (look him up), Carl Lewis (you probably have to look him up too) or Usain Bolt (at least there’s a chance you’ve heard of him) and fuel your fiery feet to flight…so fast around the oval you’ll need a parachute to slow you down.

UPDATE: To ensure I am doing my best to promote equality and provide a well rounded set of sprint icons to emulate, please also see Wilma Rudolph, Florence Griffith Joyner and Allison Felix and for our Distance crew, check out one Emma Coburn…especially her 2017 world championship 3K steeplechase performance.

Or in other words…RUN FAST, TURN LEFT!

What you need to do for Saturday:

Wake up
Eat
Hydrate
Don your uniform
Arrive to the UW Parkside Track by 1000 for warmup
Pick your 3 events
Step to the starting line and…
Don’t just run to the finish, Race to the finishline!

Let me know if you have any questions
